Please note that there is a small increase in the admission fee this year. This is due to the change in performance venue to a bigger, sophisticated and costlier facility at PCC Sylvania. We have made this change to accommodate our rapidly growing community, since we were not able to give admission to many people at the gate due to space limitation last year. Please note that the dinner is also included in the admission fee to make it cost effective.   SWORAM appreciate your continued support in conducting this community event, and encourage everyone to buy the ticket through the presale at WWW.SWORAM.ORG. This will help us to plan the event more efficiently.  Thank you again for your continued support and appreciation.

What was so special about the SWORAM Onasadya this year? Not one, but two!! We had a very special guest visiting us for the evening, none other than MAVELI MANNAN himself. Also, we got to say hello to a cheerful and enthusiastic bunch of new faces, we were almost 400 strong that evening! The Malayali demographic in Oregon is on its way up, keep it coming folks, looking forward to seeing you all in the future events. This year’s Onasadya featured a spread of 20 dishes, collectively prepared at six different locations, made possible by the dedication of the volunteers involved. A special thank you goes out to this bunch of very talented cooks; rave reviews for the dishes that you made are still trickling in. We sincerely appreciate the Malayali community’s support in promoting SWORAM activities. Wish you all a happy Malayalam New Year filled with joy and abundance.

2014 SWORAM Keralotsavam

Fall is the season when the leaves sport a thousand colors, air turns crisp and we get together for the biggest Malayali cultural celebration of the year – SWORAM Keralotsavam. Keralotsavam 2014 was inaugurated by the founding board members of SWORAM, it was their pioneering vision that made SWORAM possible, and we couldn’t be more thankful. The evening was filled with cultural entertainment put together by the Malayali community, followed by socialization over dinner. Even though the show runs only for a couple of hours, we know that it culminates days of dedicated practice for all the participants. We tip our hat to the performers, to their mentors and also to the parents of participating children who devoted so much of their time to make it happen. Over the years we have watched our little kids on stage blooming into young adulthood exploring their artistic inclinations and nurturing a deep respect for our cultural heritage. This is the spirit that will continue to grow. SWORAM Keralotsavam 2014 was a sold out event, giving us a glimpse of the rapidly growing Malayali community in Oregon and SW Washington. We will look for a venue with more seating capacity for next year’s event. Exciting times ahead!
